And here are some things I’d like you to know about me and Luminara:
I didn’t come to English through grammar textbooks or classrooms—I learned it by living it. I spent my early years in the U.S. 
, then returned to Indonesia, where I started teaching English in 2008. Since then, I’ve taught uni students to busy professionals, helped many land scholarships and opportunities abroad, and done translation work on various topics.
My childhood experience, hobbies, and teaching experience fuel my focus on the practical side of English. My understanding of the language comes from years and years of real conversations, real teaching, and a slightly obsessive love for books, movies, TV shows, music, and everything in between. This has led to me achieving near-perfect or perfect scores across various standardized English tests: IELTS Academic (8.5-9.0), TOEFL ITP (647/677), TOEFL iBT (105/20), and Versant (80/80), making me confident to teach and assist those who are prepping for these tests (specifically IELTS and TOEFL ITP). Also, I believe English is meant to be used, not just studied. But these days, I’m also brushing up on the behind-the-scenes theory stuff—so I can explain things clearly, no matter what questions you throw at me.
In 2018–2019, I pursued a Master’s in Applied Linguistics (focusing on TESOL Studies) at The University of Queensland, Brisbane—funded by the Australia Awards Scholarships 
🎓That experience deepened my understanding of how people learn/acquire languages and equipped me with even more tools to support learners. But fun fact: my early background was actually in Management (yup, full circle!) so I’m also familiar with business or professional contexts.
In 2021, after some health issues, I built Luminara as a flexible, heart-led business built to align with my well-being while still letting me do what I love. Luminara combines my expertise in languages, education, and translation. As for the name? Luminara (inspired by ‘illuminate’) refers to enlightenment, because of those “OHHH I get it!” moments I often witness when I’m teaching.
So Luminara exists because we understand one thing very clearly: you want to improve your English, get the scores you need, and do it without the stress and confusion that often come with studying on your own. You need a systematic, personalized approach—one that fits into your already packed days. That’s why I mostly ‘teach’ asynchronously and adopt microlearning, which are not only a great way for me to keep teaching but also give you flexibility through pre-recorded tutorial videos and personalized feedback via Telegram chat. My amazing co-tutors, Ms Savira and Ms Shira, handle live Zoom classes.
We’re here to support your different energy levels and life situations and to help you reach your desired test scores and proficiency, so you can become a more effective and confident communicator. Right now, we offer IELTS and TOEFL ITP Preparation, Scholarship/University Application Essay Reviews, and Argumentative Essay Writing, while we continue developing new programs on General English, Business English, and more.
When it comes to translation, we don’t just translate—we aim to transcreate. That means we prioritize both accuracy and natural flow, ensuring your message gets across in the target language just as it does in the original. Our Story
(or: how Luminara came to life ✨)
Bea here! Luminara officially launched in August 2021, during a big turning point in my life. I was facing some major health challenges, and I realized I needed a more sustainable way to keep doing what I love (teaching, translating, helping people grow). In truth, the seeds of Luminara had been planted long before—it’s really a reflection of my life experiences, values, and vision.
I spent most of my early childhood in the U.S. and moved back to Indonesia just before I turned 10. Somewhere along the way, I got this deep pull to teach English—like, really teach it, in a way that ensures accuracy and proficiency. Over time, that idea grew into a vision: to support and empower people through language education, while honoring who they are, what they need, and what the world asks of them today, making it relevant to our lives and the world we live in. But only recently did I realize that I also wanted to do it in a way that made it more human and less stressful.
Now, my path wasn’t exactly a straight line. I originally studied Management at Universitas Padjadjaran, and over the years, I gained experience in the corporate world, education consulting, translation, and teaching English and test prep. But one day, it hit me: if I wanted to truly help my students grow, I needed to level up my skills first. That epiphany led me to pursue a Master’s in Applied Linguistics (TESOL Studies) at The University of Queensland (2018-2019), thanks to the support of Australia Awards Scholarships. That journey deepened my understanding of how people learn/acquire languages, and gave me the tools and perspectives (and courage!) to finally bring Luminara to life when I needed it most. The experience also helped me connect the dots between everything I’d done so far and everything I wanted to create next. And so, Luminara is now a space where all those lessons, experiences, and goals could finally come together.
Since 2008, I’ve worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, and have spent over a decade in the translation/editing field as well. All of that experience has now come together to offer something that’s flexible, impactful, and deeply human, in this little online corner I now call home.
